按照山东的习俗，春节差不多在腊月下旬才开始。一开始做的是准备工作。大人们都忙着买一些吃的食物和过年时要穿的新衣服。小孩子都买一些摔炮，尤其是男孩子，这是他们的最爱。女孩子就买一些在手里拿着玩的烟花，这些烟花在晚上放最适合不过了。
除夕夜，人们都要开着灯睡觉，据说这样吉利。
正月初一可是春节中最隆重的一天。一大早，男人们就会带着自己家里的男孩子们去拜年。这礼拜年，要给比自己年长的人扣头以示尊重。吃饭前，还要放一挂鞭炮。吃完早饭就更热闹了。结了婚的女人家也要去拜年，而且一般情况下都是成群结队的拜年。孩子们在这一天都去逛超市，买烟花爆竹来玩。大家拜完年就要回家帮老人们包饺子，为晚餐做准备。大约在这天下午四点多的时候就要开始放鞭炮了。那声音此起彼伏，好像一首快乐的歌。只要抬头一看，多多少少都会看到烟花那绚丽的光芒。这里的人一般睡觉早，七点多钟就已经进入了梦乡，可这一天人们熬到十一点多还没睡觉。到处都能听到噼噼啪啪的鞭炮声，还能看到五彩缤纷的烟花。

当午夜交正子时，新年钟声敲响之际，整个城市的上空，爆竹声震响天宇。在这一刻，有的人家还在庭院里垒'旺火'，以示旺气通天，兴隆繁盛。在熊熊燃烧的旺火周围，孩子们放爆竹，欢乐地活蹦乱跳。这时，屋内是通明的灯火，庭前是灿烂的火花，屋外是震天的响声，把除夕的热闹气氛推向了最高潮。还有萝卜俗称菜头，祝愿有好彩头；龙虾、爆鱼等煎炸食物，预祝家运兴旺如'烈火烹油'。最后多为一道甜食，祝福往后的日子甜甜蜜蜜，这天，即使不会喝酒的，也要多少喝一点。

来到农村，杀猪宰羊……以各自的风俗庆春节，在有的地方还开始了集市，他喊一声买饮料，他喊一声买衣服，这边喊减价了，那边喊买二送一了，各个东西应有尽有，真是琳琅满目，热闹极啦。
到了春节的大年三十晚上，春节晚会就开始了，演小品、说相声、唱歌什么节目都有，一个节目演完台下掌声一片，直到三更半夜人们都困了，节目才完。节目完了，可人们还兴致勃勃，因为还没发压岁钱、放烟花呢！等干完这一切，差不多十二点了，小孩子们都拿着压岁钱去睡觉了大人要闲聊一阵才去睡。
第二天，人们又得起个大早，带着买好的礼物去走亲戚，亲戚多的要走好几天呢，少的也至少要走一天多。

夜晚终于到了，我们一家12口人齐齐来到广场上。我和弟弟抬出那些憋了一整天的鞭炮和烟花，准备举行放烟花开幕仪式了。大伯在清点着鞭炮和烟花：“导火索”、“地雷”、“冲天炮”、“跳炮”、“烟花桶”……这么多，要放到什么时候呀！我和弟弟会心一笑。
随着哥哥的第一声炮响，我们都行动起来。天空一下子被五颜六色的烟花照亮了
旁边的人家也不甘示弱，“呯！呯！”地放起来。就这样，我们与别的家庭展开了一场激烈的比赛，看谁家的烟花放的看。
天空中不时地回响着鞭炮、烟花声，云朵都被染成五颜六色的了，比火烧云还好看。
突然，一支新型“冲天炮”飞到了我们的上空，转身一看，原来是爷爷邻居的孩子子林，只见他不断地对我挑眉。我们也“还以颜色”，放了好几枚“信号弹”与“闪光弹”。哈！这一下可把子林给镇住了，我对他着他大声喊：“还是我的多！”
